Secret Project

This commission had something a little different about it right from the start. Our client wanted to surprise his wife with the perfect gift to celebrate their wood wedding anniversary and the design and crafting of this piece was all done in secret so that it could be unveiled at the perfect moment. The hall stand had to fit in an awkward space and suit their family life with hooks and shelves at the right height for their boys too.

Works on every level.

The design works for every family member - we have gorgeous textured detail around the upper storage shelves for the tallest of our clients; the coat hooks are at hand reaching height for our adults and again, lower down, for the kids. The shoe storage works for everyone and our youngest client came back with the news that his ‘party shoes’ fit perfectly!

Natural Beauty.

Sometimes the key to great design is to just let nature do its thing - to let the grain speak for itself. The timber selection here was so important and the live edge Oak on this seat section adds such depth and warmth to the finished piece without becoming too rustic which wouldn’t have sat well in the modern styling of the destination home.

Contrast works.

Here you can see just how well the linear structure of the backplate contrasts with, and yet complements, the organic shapes of the sides and top. Perhaps it is reflective of the occasion it was designed to celebrate - it is a marriage of two forms with the differences in each bringing out the best in the other.
